Encountered While Feeding the Ducks—April 2023
I (Candy) felt like the Lord told me to go to the area of Lake Tye in Monroe, WA where you can feed the ducks and I would find someone there with a small child that was helping them with their coat or their shoes. I didn’t know much else except to maybe encourage them.
When I arrived at Lake Tye in Monroe, there were a few people near the edge of the lake and there was a mom with a little boy and she was helping adjust his little rain boots. He also had some bread that he was trying to feed the ducks.
I started a conversation with them about feeding the ducks, but I waited a bit to feel out the right timing as people were coming and going. Eventually, I told her that I felt like God told me I would meet them today and asked if they needed prayer for anything.
She said she wasn’t religious, but was open to receiving prayer and that her father-in-law was currently in ICU, so I prayed for him and their family. I also just mentioned briefly that I wasn’t religious either, but wanted to walk in a real relationship with God, not just rules and ideas. It was a very simple encounter, but I felt like the Lord led me right to her and her son.
Listening to God Opens the Door—January 2023
It is not always easy to find people who like to go out and do evangelism. I am thankful that God connected me to Ryan, who did a YWAM DTS 15 years ago and is around my age. A couple of times a month on Thursday nights we go out to do outreach, usually in a local park.
One week, I arrived early before Ryan and was praying and singing as I walked around the park. I noticed one young man and began to intercede for him. Eventually, he walked over to a bench with a girl and sat down. I felt I was to talk to him, but I heard the Lord say, “Wait until Ryan comes.” A few minutes later, Ryan arrived and walked toward me.
At the same time, the girl sitting on the bench got up and walked away. Ryan and I walked up to the bench and talked to the guy. After some small talk, Ryan encouraged Him to pursue God and I shared something from the Lord with him. It wasn’t too long of an interaction, but is one example of God providing opportunities to sow seeds.
A few minutes later that same night, Ryan and I had a good encounter with someone in the nearby skate park, where I had just been prayer walking. The stories all blur together a little but if my memory is correct, that guy really thanked us for talking to him that night as we gave him some practical steps to go forward in his journey of discipleship.
It’s been a season where God seems to be reteaching me many of the principles I have learned in the past, such as circling prayer and shifting atmospheres, listening to Him as I go, and sharing relationally but clear presentations of the gospel to those who are spiritually open to hear. Praise the Lord for opportunities to continue to sow seeds into the younger generation!”
